Here We Are, and State Fair

In Winnemucca!

Tomorrow is the big day, although Jari's market lamb didn't make weight, so she wont be showing her, she still has Angle in Showmanship and as a spring ewe lamb.

This is what I have been working on since last weekend, a 50/50 merino/silk blend...
And this is what it looks like now! The real colors are closer to the pic below. I am going to make a scarf for a friend that I was supposed to do over a year ago. I Navajo plyed it too cut down on the 'barber pole' affect, it worked out very nicely! It looks much better in person.
Here are the girls just before we showed last weekend, dont they look great!
This skein was one I showed here on my blog a few months ago, it was right after SpinOff came out with the article about cableing your yarn. It got Reserve Grand in its division, then I sent it off with (forgive me I cant remember her name!) one of the other women in the guild and she is going to make fingerless mitts out of it for me. Too exciting! I am going to have a practical use for something I spun! I know, Ive made other scarfs, but would you believe that people refuse to use them because they think they are too special? My sister wont wear the one I gave her because she thinks it will get ruined. My husband wont wear the one I gave him because he thinks it will get dirty; the only one that wears what I have made them is my Mom. Thank you Mom!
So since I left that skein at the fair, it wasnt around when I took this picture. Here are all the things I entered in the fair, and the ribbons they brought. The yellow skein is so pretty, I was really suprised it didn't do better than it did, but it got beat out by my cable and a very pretty boucle. The dark object there is the scarf I posted about a while back it took best in division, the one I made from over dyed grey romeldale cross with the beads, and you all saw the multicolored one just last month I think it got 1st in the tunis category. The orange skein is also tunis, I didnt know what to do with it, so I put some green dye, some blue dye and some yellow, didn't like it and over dyed it red. Had the judge scratching her head apparently (was off washing sheep during the judging) as to how it was done. It was a lot of fun and I thank all who put so much effort into having this for us.
Thanks CSSW!!!

Don't you just love the way navajo plying makes the yarn just sing to you! I can't wait to see your knitted (?) project!

There is a dynamic at the fair - you just have to be there. Mim brought all my stuff home and took wonderful notes, but it's not the same as being there and sucking in all that energy. I can only imagine what your skeins look like because I know what have looked like in the past. Note to self - don't compete against Becky...

Well done! You've inspired me to enter our Fair next year! You and everyone else, that is.
How exciting to see your hard work receive the acknowledgement it should.

Way to go, girl! :)

Wow, I've missed a lot of exciting things going on in your life! Just realized last night that somehow I missed adding your link to my "Follow" list, so I haven't been getting the updates. That's fixed, and now I have a bunch of catching up to do! Congratulations on all your well-deserved ribbons.
