There seems to be an epidemic here; my Mother is depressed, my best friend is depressed, and I woke up at 3AM the other morning wondering why the hell I'm here! I don't seem to be accomplishing anything! We scurry about frantically for 70 or 80 years and then we die. What a thought to wake up to, eh?
I'm better now, I still don't want to get out of my jammas, but I do. This is why I haven't posted lately, just haven't had anything good to say.
I recently went through some of my stash and came up with this. I had intended to send it off with some other odds and ends to be processed together, it just never happened. This is North Ronaldsay wool. There was an article in Spin Off in the Summer 2006 issue about this very unique breed of sheep, very good reading! Soon after that, someone listed this on eBay and I pounced! It is a 5- or 6" long, semi lustrous wool that is very fun to spin. I have both white and a variegated grey, but they apparently come in lots of colors.

I am spinning it heavy because that's what it told me to do.
This is what we woke up to this morning... the sky was so bright I couldn't get a good picture, but there is snow there! My tree is awaiting its trimming so we can fit it to the stand. I love Noble Fir, just wish it weren't so expensive. I would have gotten a bigger one :)

Fear not Becky everybody I run into lately is having a hard time. I'm getting nailed from all sides. Just got my cat back from the vet and I won't even blog about her just too depressing!!!!!!!! At least our health is good. Nice fleece and yarn!
Very nice fleece! I think the North Ronaldsay come in all the colors Shetlands do; they are similar breeds. I can't wait until after the holidays when I might find time to spin again. Have been spending all my spare time knitting....
New to your blog--you are right-- today is a bit on the 'blahhh' side. I do like the pictures of your pretty place and animals. I am a knitter and love learning about where wool comes from. Cheers!
It seems that there is a collective session of the blues going on - I'm catching it from multiple corners. Hang on girl, it's just a ride and you've been through worse. And remember, you've been through better. It's all smoke and mirrors. When the horse throws you off, get back on and ride.

Just thought I'd say we've been the same as everyone else. I think all sorts of things catching up with all of us has contributed to our collective depressions - and to make it worse, we're all just plain tired from worrying about it, then throw on top of that shorter days. Bummer.
I know I have been very worried about my DH's upcoming surgery to boot. When they changed the date 'casue the surgeon wanted an extra pair of well experienced hands in for this one, I started to panic, quietly.
I do want to ask you, Becky, where you got the North Ronaldsy. I would love to try it. I'm like you in finding other breeds "exotic" and therefore must be spun! :)

I enjoyed your post and I have been where you are ! Some days I do feed my animals and tend to outdoor stuff wearing my flannel p.j. pants. And hey, spinning my wool is a great way to relax AND be productive ! Love your blog!
Becky! You are here because we all love you! We (I) may not post as much as I should, but don't despair. . . we are all here on your side of things :) We are all struggling with economic issues and such, but the fiber all pulls us back together. . . love that North Ronaldsay. I need to go look that up I think- it surely looks lovely! It appears that it will really have a halo - but that might be my monitor too!
Now you know why I haven't been keeping up on my blog reading! That time of year, I will stay as numb as I can, then come New Years will suck it up and start a new. Who said it got easier?
Love the wool, is it soft? I have some patterns that were made with that wool in mind. Thinking maybe I will subsitute Icelandic or Shetland? Not all of us are lucky enough to have North Ronaldsay :)) Now to go and eat some Chocolate Cherrys, only this time of year :))
