It started when I finished that fall colored scarf a couple of months ago. I decided I would never wear it, so why not sell it?
In 2007 I started an Etsy story so I could sell my hand spun. What a pain in the butt! I did sell some yarn, but mostly to knitting friends who I directed to the store to see what I had that they might be interested in. Not many chance sales. I dropped the whole store thing because I was selling it myself and didn't need to pay Etsy to help me.
Thinking of selling that scarf however, brought into fine relief the fact that I live in a very small town and I want more for the scarf than anyone I know would want to pay for it!
I've reopened my Etsy store, and will list scarves that I've made, yarn that I've spun, processed fiber to spin, and raw fiber that I will never get around to playing in myself.
I don't know how long it will last, but hopefully it will help support my habits and addictions; sheep and wool.

That's why I decided against an Etsy store for Hubbert Farms. Too many people doing it I think. Even at the huge yarn shows it's still a tough sell!
Other than long ago, when I had more teaching gigs, and an actual studio, I haven't done any selling of my knitted/woven products. As you know, I do sell dyed yarn and fiber, but only at a couple of small shows a year.
I'd like to ramp up that part of my "hobby" - but I'm unsure how to approach it. Right now, being in the middle of moving, looking for a new job, etc., there is no time to do a business plan for a fledgling enterprise.
I will, however, pursue it - when my brain/life settles down a bit!!
I agree with Jody. I didn't enjoy Etsy and when my sales expire, I'm going to let it go extinct. Good luck with your store!!
